One Year of Adventure
Today marks one year since Read the Stars Developmental Editing was officially born as a company! I’d been editing for long before that, but this was the official, legal start of having my own business to connect with and serve writers around the world.
This past year has gone by dizzyingly fast, and yet so much has happened all the same. I’ve learned so much, and had the privilege of working with so many authors, outliners, and creators. It’s truly been an incredible journey and I’ve been honored and grateful to get to work with every single person I did.
I have big plans for 2023, including ramping up work on educational resources and materials on my website, and doing even more outreach with the creative writing community. Every day, I’m grateful to do what I do with my life. Books and stories are my passion, and there’s nothing I love more than getting to teach, work alongside, and follow writers on their personal journey of making their work the best it can be. I can’t wait to help be both a teacher and student of story-crafting this year.
It’s really been an incredible, crazy year of embarking on a dream. My work with authors has allowed me to live independently and sustain myself as a small business owner and freelancer. To everyone who has utilized a freelance editor—thank you! It’s because of you that we get to continue doing what we love and helping authors.
I enjoyed this special day by playing with my cats (Read the Stars’ birthday also coincides with theirs!) and helping build up new projects for My Writing Shed so we can serve the local writing community of Central Illinois. My beautiful one year editversary cake from Le Bakery was shared with family, friends and colleagues. Then I copied down more ideas for future plans coming this year for Read the Stars.
I can’t wait to share more with you about what’s in store! Keep an eye out for future materials and hints into what big updates are coming this way. Until then, stay creative, stay passionate, stay writing.
Happy New Year from the team at Read the Stars Editing,
Cara (the owner and editor)
Ann (my fuzzy editorial assistant),
and Amelia (my other fuzzy asssitant)
